Today, telephony is a necessary means of communication in all sectors of activity. There are several types of telephones, two of which are the subject of this article, namely VoIP and fixed-line telephones. In the following article we will describe how these two types of telephony work and the difference between them.
Fixed line phones and VoIP: how does it work?
The voip (voice other IP) or voice over internet protocol allows the transmission of voice through the internet. In reality, this type of telephony does not use a physical line, it goes through the internet and is compatible with all types of digital internet networks. For voice communications, it is first channelled through the microphone, translated into a digital signal and then compressed using a codec. The digitised voice is then converted into digital packets which are sent to the Internet and reconstructed to transmit the original message. As for the fixed telephone or home telephone, it uses a system with a fixed subscriber terminal line. The voice communication is converted into signals that will reach the station before being transmitted to the correspondent.
What is the difference between VoIP and landline phones?
For most, fast communication is essential so choosing the best telephony is very important. The main difference between these two telephones is the way the signals are transmitted. Nevertheless, their differences center on many levels. Fixed line telephony transmits telephone signals between users using copper cable and a PBX (public branch exchange) system, while voIP transmits voice in digital form over the internet; VoIP is less expensive than landline telephones; VoIP is not dependent on a fixed line, unlike fixed line telephones which are dependent on telephone service providers. Before choosing one or the other of these two types of telephony, it is advisable to take into account the advantages that they present.
